Colorado public health and marijuana regulators have issued a health advisory recalling Craft-brand cannabis vape cartridges and disposables sold at 405 dispensaries statewide. The Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) and the Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) initiated the action after discovering chemical contamination in commercial batches.
State agencies identified the contaminant as methylene chloride, also known as dichloromethane (DCM). This industrial solvent is commonly used in paint removers, adhesives, and chemical processing. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), short-term exposure causes central nervous system damage and neurotoxicity, while chronic exposure increases the risk of liver disease and cancer.
Affected Batches and Product Distribution
The recall affects vape products manufactured by Greenwood Village-based Staycon LLC, which operates the Craft brand. The contaminated inventory reached consumers between March 27 and September 25 of this year.
State regulators listed several specific strains involved in the contaminated production runs:
- Green Skunk
- Hawaiian Sour
- Mango Kush
- Maui Wowie
- Diesel Dawg
- Ghost Haze
The DOR and CDPHE advise consumers who possess these products to stop using them immediately and either return them to the place of purchase or dispose of them securely.
Health Advisories and Reporting Protocols
State officials confirm that no consumer illnesses or hospitalizations have been reported to date. However, health authorities urge anyone experiencing adverse reactions after using Craft products to seek immediate medical care.
Consumers and medical professionals must document and report adverse events directly to the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED). Colorado, which legalized medical cannabis in 2000 and adult recreational sales in 2012, maintains mandatory testing rules to eliminate dangerous chemical residues from retail store shelves.
